High Intensity Prismatic Reflectivity – Included
Every street name sign is made with High-Intensity Prismatic (HIP) reflective sheeting at no extra cost. HIP is noticeably brighter at night than standard Engineer Grade and withstands years of sun and weather, making it a popular choice for municipal street signage.

Available in Both Extruded or Flat Blade Options
Extruded Blade:
Thicker (.240″) top and bottom edge
Square Corners
Flat Blade:
Consistent .080″ thickness throughout
3/4″ radius corners

See the Difference at Night
In daylight, 3M reflective sheeting grades can look very similar. At night, the difference is dramatic. The photo compares Engineer Grade on the left, High Intensity Prismatic in the center, and Diamond Grade on the right under headlight illumination. For higher-speed roads, critical intersections, and locations where nighttime visibility matters most, Diamond Grade provides the brightest, most visible sign.

Choosing the Right Street Name Sign Street Name sign size and lettering depend on the roadway type, speed limit, number of lanes, and whether the sign is post-mounted or overhead. For many post-mounted applications, the MUTCD recommends 6-inch initial upper-case letters with 4.5-inch lower-case letters. On two-lane local streets posted at 25 mph or less, smaller 4-inch initial upper-case letters with 3-inch lower-case letters may be used. Higher-speed, multi-lane, and overhead installations generally call for larger lettering. One detail that often causes confusion: the speed limit used to determine letter size is the speed of the roadway the sign faces, not the street named on the sign. Street Name signs must be retroreflective or illuminated for nighttime visibility. Your state or local agency may also have additional requirements for size, color, reflectivity, or mounting. Not sure which size or reflectivity level to choose? See our Street Name Sign Buying Guide for MUTCD guidance and help selecting the right sign for your application.
